When deciding what to eat for breakfast it is a good idea to consider what foods may cause a blood sugar spike. Eating carb-loaded or sugary meals can lead to a quick rise in insulin levels, followed by a harsh crash. This drop will translate to sugar and carb cravings, extra hunger, and often can mess with our hormone levels. It is best to start your day with foods that do not spike your blood sugar in order to avoid that mid-day crash in energy. When choosing foods to consume, try a combination of fiber, fat, and protein we can help regulate blood sugar spikes which will leave you feeling fuller longer and in the long term can lead to overall improved metabolic health.

But What is Metabolic Health?

Metabolism is the set of cellular mechanisms that generate energy from our food and environment in order to sustain the cells in the human body. When these energy-producing pathways run smoothly, we have optimal metabolic health.

Since all cells in the body require energy to function, metabolic health is foundational for wellbeing.

Casey Means, MD states that Proper metabolic Function Will lead to:

  • Stable and sustained energy throughout the day

  • Sharp memory and recall

  • Sustained exercise endurance

  • Fat burning ability and healthy weight

  • Stable mood, decreased anxiety and depression

  • Clear skin and decreased wrinkles

  • Improved fertility

  • Improved sexual health

  • A high functioning immune system

  • Lower risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, obesity, fatty liver disease, heart disease, stroke, and more

So why not avoid Glyphosate, add 2 extra servings of veggies, and stay fuller longer with this magical cauliflower oat bowl! And I swear- you won’t believe it is not oats~

Ingredients

Blueberry and Cream Cauliflower "Oat" Bowl

Instructions

  1. Place Cauliflower, Milk, Chia and Flax seeds on the stove on medium heat, stir and cook until the mixture begins to simmer. Once the mixture begins to simmer, adjust the temperature to low heat.
  2. Add in protein powder and maple syrup or honey and stir until combined, adjust by adding more milk if the mixture becomes too thick.
  3. Remove from stove and let cool. Transfer to a bowl and add suggested toppings. Feel free to get creative and add any other toppings you enjoy.

I love making breakfast bowls! They are so tasty and filling and allow you to get creative in the kitchen. There are so many variations you can make to this recipe! Try an apple spice version with apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and turmeric. Or add banana, walnut and dairy free chocolate chips to make a chunky monkey version that your kids will love!!

Recommended Ingredients:

  • When choosing a protein powder I like to pick brands that are tested and that I trust! Many protein powders on the market contain traces of heavy metals which are not good for your body. I love Dr. Axe vegan superfood protein powder which you can find here.

  • As for Nut Butters I always opt for organic. Recently, some studies came out showing that Almonds are actually really bad for the environment because of their demand. A single almond takes about three and a half liters of water to produce- scary!! Additionally, almonds are part of the industrial Mono cropping that is ruining the health and longevity of our soil. For this reason I have been opting for Hazelnut Butter as hazelnuts can thrive in harsh soils where other plants would fail
